Smile Check
Ideally, orthodontic assessments should start early. The American Association of Orthodontists recommends that children should be evaluated by an orthodontist by age seven. At this age, Dr. Michael Bowen can detect any issues with jaw growth and development and emerging teeth. Most children begin orthodontic treatment between the ages of 9 and 14.
During your child’s orthodontic evaluation in Scottsdale, Phoenix, and Glendale, Arizona, Dr. Michael Bowen will ask questions about your child’s past oral health. The mouth and teeth are checked for any signs of malocclusion (crooked teeth or a bad bite). X-rays and photos will be taken of your child’s face and teeth. If necessary, a model will be made of your child’s teeth.
Early detection of any orthodontic issues means that our orthodontist can begin treatment when it is most advantageous. Dr. Michael Bowen will monitor the development of your child’s teeth and bite as they grow. In this way, our orthodontist will know when the right time is to begin treatment.
Early orthodontic treatment usually takes less time than adult orthodontics. Despite this, orthodontics for adults is becoming more and more common.
