We want you to know what to expect when you come get braces. While it can seem intimidating when considering braces for the first time, our expert team at Great Big Smiles Orthodontics works hard to make sure your experience getting your teeth straightened is as comfortable as possible.

Your first visit will be fairly simple. Dr. Michael Bowen will assess what kind of misalignment you have, take x-rays, and take impressions of your teeth to make models from. Using these, he will create a map for treating your misalignment and straightening your teeth.

A while later we’ll have you come back and attach your braces. We will tighten the wires to begin the alignment. You have experience some discomfort or even a bit of pain in these first adjustments, but we can provide painkillers to help.

After your braces have been installed on your teeth, we will have you come back into Great Big Smiles Orthodontics every 2-4 weeks for 18-24 months for brief adjustment visits. This will continually push your teeth to their proper alignment, leading to the strong, straight smile you want.

While it can feel like this takes a while, the benefit to your quality of life can’t be measured. At the end of treatment, you will have a smile you don’t have to be embarrassed about. You can smile, laugh, and enjoy life without crooked teeth.
