Healthy Braces and the Holidays
Who doesn’t love great holiday food? This time of year brings out the best in people – and the best in food, too. However, if you have braces you may be worried that you won’t be able to enjoy all of your favorite holiday foods.
So our team here at Great Big Smiles Orthodontics decided to put this list together of tips to help you still enjoy holiday food and maintain healthy braces.
Avoid the nuts
During almost any cocktail hour at a party, you’ll be served nuts. However, you shouldn’t eat these even if you really want them – they’ll get stuck in your teeth, brackets, and just about everywhere else in your mouth.
Embrace the pumpkin and pudding
If you’re craving something sweet but don’t want to deal with sticky foods, then learn to embrace the softer sweet foods. Items like pumpkin pie and pudding can satisfy your sweet tooth and not create a giant mess in your braces.
Always brush and floss
After eating anything at a party, make sure you brush and floss as quickly as possible. This ensures food doesn’t get stuck anywhere for too long and cause long-term problems.
While you do have to be careful about what you eat and you can’t have all of your favorite holiday foods when wearing braces, it’s still easy to get some great food and keep your braces as healthy as possible as well.
